I've noticed a little pattern of me photographing the yellow of the season a lot lately. Partially because yellow has always been my favorite and partially because yellow and spring just seem right together. So I present.... The Sunshine Quilt, the fabric equivalent of my sunshine/yellow love this time of year.
I had a bunch of vintage sheet fat quarters in a yellow/sunshine colorway that I had been saving for a picnic quilt after the last one I made never made it to a picnic and stayed on the bed. I ordered some more and then went to town the other weekend cutting cut for this quilt. The pattern was inspired by someone's quilt that I saw, printed out, and put on my inspiration board. I wish I remembered to print more than just the picture.
I did a little math, not always my strong point, to figure out a pattern and then sewed away. At first I wasn't in love and had to remind myself that it was just going to get sandy and peanut-butter-and-jelly-ed. But each day I look at this quilt top just begging to be quilted (this weekend?) I like it more and more. Now I have a vintage sheet addiction and I'll be picnic-ing in style.
Have a lovely Tuesday!
30 notes:
Very Beautiful, the colors just lift one's soul right out of winter.
it's lovely, I'm not usually a fan of yellow but this tempts me!
happy picnics xx
So nice! I love the vintage sheet quilts after quilting, so soft!
Love the fact that I remember having some of these patterns as sheets in my house when I was a little girl! Brings back the smell of sheets drying on the clothesline in the summer. :)
beaUUUUtiful! I have such a vintage sheet addiction! They're so soft after all the years, what's not to love?
And yellow= spring in my book.
Vintage sheets rock! Everytime I at the thrift store I always want to buy them. This quilt turned out great!

I love it! It makes me thing of daffodils. I'm sure you'll have many lovely picnics with it.
I so love it! I had those pink/yellow/green sheets, and I think my mom had the daisy ones!! A picnic quilt is a great idea. I wish I could sew! I'll have to just keep my eye out at thrift stores for cool old blankets, I guess.

It's so bright and cheery Jessica! I love the sheeting you used that looks like a quilt already! The way you placed each piece just makes it so appealing! Nice work!
yay for vintage sheets! i can't help but snag them at the thrift store. i usually make dolls quilts and clothes for my kids, but i think maybe i'll borrow your idea and make a little picnic quilt, too, in springy colors. Thanks!
this is beautiful. I've been wanting to do a vintage sheet quilt top, too - they're so... sunny!
It's beautiful, Jessica! I love that it's made with vintage sheets, and the yellows are just yummy.
I love it Jessica!
I love the idea of a picnic quilt. I am dying to have a quilt for my hammock. One that comes with sewn on ties in every corner, and made to fit my hammock. Wouldn't that be cool?
Loooove the colors in this one. I would purchase this in an instant.
This is gorgeous! I have some of the same sheets that I am saving to make a quilt. This makes me want to hurry and make it!
