A Confession

I have a confession- sometimes I worry that all the farms will be built over with houses and buildings. The only cure is a drive through corn fields, stopping for a little bit to enjoy wide open spaces full of quiet and that is exactly what I did this past weekend.

I was on the search for blueberries, but I think I might have missed the season by a few days. What was still in season was raspberries so I picked a few pints which was just enough for another batch of jam. You know how that brightens my day. Pick your own is the best invention in the world and this farm (thanks, Katie!) was awesome.

Next up-blackberries and triple berry jam. This leads me to wonder- could I be a professional jam-maker?

Have a great Tuesday!

I worry about the same thing...the farms being built over with houses. It looks like you found a good way to help yourself feel better.

All those years of schooling and you become a professional jam maker!?! Sounds good to me!!

We have tons of farms where we live and I often wonder the same thing. Many of the farmers have stopped farming berries and are farming pumpkins and having big pumpkin fairs that bring in alot of money so they can keep their farms... I too hope we don't blow it here in America by not buy local.
I love barns and hope to one day own some land with a barn that I can turn into a craft/floral shop!

Take Care Jessica enjoy that jam!

Beautiful photos! I love making jam, too! And last year I had so many requests from friends for jars of it, that I decided to make a few extra this year and sell it!

mmm certainly a worry in my book too!
U-pick farms are so great, I agree! : )
Looks like you had yourself a lovely day!
I encourage your professional jam making ambition whole heartedly! ; )

i totally understand your fears, but maybe one thing about this dreadful economy is that people will get back to basics and the small family farm will once again thrive. for now, rest assured. i know of quite a bit of farmland in a few of our southern states where i've lived in the past few years. i know there's more throughout this great country. our support in buying local at farmers markets, thru cooperatives and u-pick farms is definitely what we can as individuals.

totally go for the jam making thing. if anyone can do it, you can! :)

and awesome, awesome photos!

Glad you got some raspberries before they were gone, I love that farm! I agree, it makes me so sad every time I see yet another development go up.
Have a great week!

The photos are wonderful! I admit thinking the same thing--I see where farms have gone "out of business" and roads have been paved right through them. Even our favorite Christmas Tree farm went out of business. Very sad.

Jess--we went blueberry picking out in Greece, http://www.greenacreupick.com/, I think. Anyway, last we went was on 7/31, but there were still many bushes that weren't yet ripe. They have a phone number, it might be worth calling and seeing if they have any left. They had many other u-pick fruits, too.

We love jam making, too. Every year we make a supply for our family for the entire year and also give away a good amount. This year L1 made a fantastic 5-berry jam: strawberries, blueberries, black raspberries, and two kinds of red raspberries. We also did a strawberry-cherry that has been delicious. It's fun to experiment with new combinations.

I feel that way too. One of the girls at work asked if it was my car with the "No Farms, No Food" bumper sticker on it in the parking lot. Made me smile! Hope you enjoy your berries!!
