The Process: Inspiration

Yesterday I wrote about enjoying the process of creating, something that I am quite passionate about. This got me thinking, "When/How does the process begin?" I find plenty of inspiration hopping around this land, trips to the fabric or arts store, and flickr. Sometimes ideas or inspiration come to me while taking a walk or reading. Often I'm knee-deep in a pile of fabric going "I need to make something" to fulfill my creative whim at that moment. Sometimes an experience inspires me to create and those are often my favorite pieces, pieces that I cannot wait to share with those who shared that moment with me. I'm pretty much guilty of finding inspiration most everywhere. My file folder labeled Inspiring is getting bigger and bigger and just flipping through it can get me to the craft room for an hour or two.I've said in the past that growing up I was very creative, but I never considered myself artistic until recently and I truly have embraced that mindset these days. I'm letting my art (in whichever mode inspires me most at the time) express me and my passions. It's a risk and a continual process that I love.

This past weekend I felt a whim of creativity I can only attribute to lots of free time. It really has been good for me. I spent hours down there listening to Regina and creating and I felt at peace.
The next day was blazingly hot. I mean 'air conditioning doesn't really work-just don't move at all-there's no water in the world to cool you' hot. I was searching for inspiration and my friend and I were searching for a cool place to hang out. The art museum was the clear choice so off we went. In terms of inspiration, this may just me the place for me. I do love it there. I slow down, I stare, I notice, I people watch, I listen to 16th century organ music live that fills the halls. I spend time with my friend Monet, Renoir, and Rembrandt. They inspire me even though I rarely paint.

I returned home full of energy and inspiration and although I stared at paintings all afternoon, I picked up needles and knit away. It's just being surrounded by great creative minds, I think.

Where do you find inspiration?

Here, with you, is definitely a place to come for inspiration!

And the museum. I love museums, too, and try to visit those in my current hometown often and whenever I travel. Works of art are everywhere in the museum, even in the people watched as you mention.

Photographs, people's photographs on flickr and on blogs inspire me. And they teach me to try new techniques, play with different objects. And not to take myself too seriously all the time!

Nature. I find inspiration in my flowers and herbs, in the green grass and falling rain.

And when I was writing poetry, relationships with people. That inspired me for the emotions I may experience, good or sad.

You are most certainly an artist and I like that you now understand to refer to yourself as such! We should all live our artist.

all of the above! I will admit, blogging has inspired me in so many ways.

I love museums. And my life-long love grows stronger each and every day. Working in a museum also gives me great reason for finding inspiration. As a matter of fact, my favorite "exhibit" here at the Museum of Science is an anatomically correct knitted brain. It's the right size, various colors, and 100% amazing. Knit by a psychiatrist, its incredible. and VERY VERY inspiring.

I agree with you. Museums are a good source of inspiration. Baroque music works for me too!

It is lovely to hear of your inspiration and artistic journey, I am most certainly inspired by the intricacies found in nature and in watching my childrens creativity! Tasha Tudor and Andy Goldsworthy are artists that inspire me!

Just about everywhere! If I'm stuck for something to write on, I look through the vi.sualize.us quotes folder.

oh yes I find inspiration just about anywhere. I too have an 'ideas' folder that is overflowing and I find myself wishing there were many more hours in the day. Crafting time is limited with two little ones in the house, but when there is a little snippet of time at least I have plenty of ideas to choose from.

I find most of my inspiration from others. I copy paper project ideas, photo poses, and knitting projects from the places I visit.
looks like a peaceful way to spend a hot day!

I love museums, too. Although I rarely go these days because I spend all my time saying, "Don't touch that!!" So I look pictures in magazines, in books, on flickr. I actually got some quilt magazines with my haul of fabric that date back to 1997! It seemed so old!

I find inspiration in so many places. One of them is here on your blog. I've not been to an art museum in a long time. I think that's a trip the kids and I need to make. thanks Jessica!

I find inspiration from crafty people online, but the downside is spending time on the computer when I could be making something myself.

What a great idea. I should head over to some of my local art museums. It's been a while.

I was an Art History major in college, and have always loved visiting art museums - we have a couple of really great ones here in Minneapolis. Inspiration abounds there! Haven't been for quite awhile, though. Perhaps I should take my girl there tomorrow...

I find graphic design and children's story books to be amazing art and amazing inspiration.

A trip around an art gallery is not too bad either!

I haven't been to our local art gallery for a while - that for the suggestion. I find inspiration everywhere I look - but especially from the internet!
