As I transition into November I am noticing a trend towards "cozy." I think my down comforter will be making an appearance in the next couple of days and I am craving anything warm and toasty. The other day I looked at my bedside and noticed a huge mess. I can't say that I am always a neat and organized person- I prefer to have my living space clean, organized, but reflective of a person living there (how's that for 'sometimes it gets a little bit cluttered'). There was a theme though- comfort. A new simple knitting project so sooth my brain--the combination of wool and bamboo is just the best. A hot cup of tea. Some water. A rice bag to keep my toes warm. Some library books and magazines to peruse. Every item in that large, some-what messy pile brings me some sort of comfort and joy. I decided to leave that pile be- there were other piles I could pick up. This one reminds me to be present, get cozy, and find simple pleasure.
What are your creature comforts? How are you finding simple pleasure amongst these 'moments'?
22 notes:
There is nothing better than a rice bag at the foot of the bed on chilly nights! Once the real cold sets in, it'll be heated and tucked under the covers almost every night for toasty toes.
all of the above. warm blankets. knitting. books. warm drinks. and especially soup. love all my creature comforts.
My goofy patchwork quilt, sewing my kiddos PJs and skirts, listening to books on cd, talking and laughing like a fool with my husband late at night in the dark.
A good cup of coffee (french roast) with cream and sugar, knitting, my slippers and jammies, and my soft bed.
Comfort right now is a warm knitted blanket, hearty soup, the fire pit blazing outdoors, cozy wool on the needles, and a cup of mint tea.
I love this time of year :)
I like all those things you like and a warm cup of coffee, candles lit and some knitting in hand. This is such a cozy time of year. Enjoy!
I love the colors in your scarf! It looks like it will be beautiful.
Hmmm...my comforts right now include (but are not limited to) hot honey-lemon tea, flannel sheets and down comforters, sitting in the sunshine, and reading with my two year old.
My creature comforts: warm Simple slippers, cups and cups of hot cocoa, and going out in the crisp air for an afternoon walks before the sun sets.
Knitting is a simple pleasure for me too, along with reading, cooking, long walks...I'm feeling relaxed just typing it all (sigh). Even piles can be pleasurable, if they are piles of good things.
knitting for me, too! also, a stack of recipe books nearby to browse through, and i've been making myself cafe mocha's (hot chocolate and espresso with steamed milk). i love this time of year so much. i wish you were next door!
Such a beautiful photo and sentiments Jessica!
Soup, fresh warm bread, quilts, candles, the woodstove, handwork, and tea... moving the furniture around/nesting brings comfort to me in this days before Winter : )
I love your yarn choice! My creature comforts are wool socks & blankets, lots of hugs from JH, Irish tea, books on CD from the library so I can knit and 'read' at the same time, and far too much time spent on the computer!
Books, coffee, and my knitting are some comforts that I've been keeping nearby quite often lately. Cozy is definitely a good quality for November.
My creature comforts:
a purring cat on my lap
a big stack of books
a good pen and my journal
a nice piece of chocolate
my super-warm slipper socks
the scarf knitted for me by my girlfriend
I also prefer the "lived in look"--as I sometimes call it. I'm enjoying my flannel sheets and lots of hot coffee!
I broke into the tea isle at the grocer and gobbled up about 5 new varieties to try (hot drinks - esp tea - is my passion during the winter)!
I am going tohave to make my own rice bag. I tend to have colder toes than the hubs and even though he lets me warm them up on him - sometimes I think it would be nice not to freeze the poor guy out)!
HUGZ!
Warm cups of tea and cozy pj's.
We also needed to pull out those comforter's. The temps have been dropping.
I love it! Keeping things "cluttered" some times can be comforting! The word cozy brings such a warm feeling to my heart! Slippers, sweaters, fires, snuggling, all so cozy!
That sounds like the perfect collection of items to have beside your bed! My creature comforts are: a big mug of hot chocolate, handknitted socks to keep my feet warm, some more knitting to keep my fingers busy, a cozy quilt on the bed/sofa/chair, homemade cookies still warm from the oven, and a big pile of magazines or craft books to browse through.R x
your bedside table looks so cozy.
I love having my cup of tea, a knitting project and a good book next to me.
loving the idea of a pile of comforts xoxo
I think it takes alot for us to realize that Martha is NOT coming over so we can and should enjoy our homes. There is a difference between junk and cozying up the place. I love piles of blankets with my books and tea all around me. That is home to me and my son cuddles right up next to me to read too. fall is great for cozy!
